201 Stainless Steel Sheet
201 Stainless Steel Sheet is the new industry standard for stainless steel sheet. This particular grade is a chromium-nickel-manganese alloy that has been stabilized with an addition of nitrogen. It is non-magnetic in both the annealed and tempered conditions and offers good corrosion resistance. In order to be considered 201 stainless steel, the chemistry must meet certain criteria. Carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel and molybdenum percentages must all fall within the ranges specified in order to qualify as this particular type of austenitic stainless steel.

Type 201 stainless is a low nickel, high-work hardening, austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel.Type 201 stainless steel cannot be made harder than typical through heat. In some cases, it can be substituted with other nickel alloys that contain a greater percentage of nickel.

Type 201 can be easily welded when it is welded to 18 percent chromium, 8 percent nickel steels using filler metal of the standard chromium-nickel analyses.Although not inherently affected by carbon in austenitic stainless steels at 0.063 or greater, Type 201 reacts with weld heat in the intergranular corrosion zone.
